Il 15 Ottobre 2011 la Galleria Fumagalli di Bergamo inaugura la quarta personale di Chiara Dynys. Per l’occasione l’artista espone in anteprima italiana “Clean Your Eyes”, il progetto che ha sviluppato nell’ultimo anno della sua ricerca e che sarà esposto nel corso del 2012 in prestigiose tappe europee.
Il lavoro che la Dynys presenta a Bergamo è realizzato attraverso una fase di ricerca fotografica svoltasi principalmente in Italia, in Argentina e in Siria e una fase plastica, per cui sono state realizzate le “cornici” monocromatiche aggettanti già appartenenti per forma e concetto al linguaggio artistico di Chiara Dynys.
La serie di immagini si rivelano per quello che sono -monocromi/paesaggi – solo a un occhio paziente e “ripulito”, si inscrivono in cornici “barocche”, molto evidenti e “ingombranti”, realizzate in gesso dello stesso colore di base dell’immagine incorniciata: bianco, azzurro, rosso e oro.
Il tema del fuoco, dell’aria del ghiaccio e dei deserti, si mostra nelle opere attraverso la simbologia del colore, e da intendersi non in maniera colta, ma elementare: sono la matrice del diluvio di immagini a cui siamo sottoposti ogni giorno e sono la base per la costituzione del mondo visibile. Diverse interpretazioni dei quattro elementi sviluppano differenti linguaggi, distinguono dalla radice diverse culture, raccontano la nostra storia ma anche la preistoria.
“Clean Your Eyes” nasce dalla sensazione, dal desiderio e dall’urgenza di “ripulire” lo sguardo, e di “resettare” la mente: la natura basilare, elementare, immediata, ritratta nelle fotografie non esiste più (la foto ne è già un filtro potente), ma la cornice assolve in questo caso al duplice scopo di allontanarla ancora di più dal nostro sguardo, di isolarla, e quindi, finalmente, di tornare almeno a considerarla, a vederla. Se lo stato di natura è un’utopia, la cultura – cioè la foto, la cornice, il simbolo, la metafora, il contesto – è l’unico strumento per poterne mantenere almeno una memoria e una nostalgia.
A completare questo pensiero, sarà in mostra anche “Passages”, un video realizzato nel 2010 che riprende in lunghi piani-sequenza gli interminabili labirinti dell’Archivio Centrale dello Stato a Roma: informazione, memoria, nostalgia, cultura, ma anche livellamento e oblio sono le contraddizioni che l’essere umano vive al momento in cui cerca un’interpretazione del mondo appena superiore al livello di pura sopravvivenza biologica.

On October 15, 2011 the Galleria Fumagalli in Bergamo will inaugurate Chiara Dynys’ fourth solo exhibition on its premises. For the occasion, the artist will show as an Italian preview “Clean Your Eyes”, the project she has been working on in the last year of research, and which will be exhibited throughout 2012 in a number of prestigious European dates.
The project consists of a phase of photographic study conducted mainly in Italy, Argentina, and Syria, and a plastic phase, for which the monochromatic jutting “frames”, belonging to the artistic language of Chiara Dynys for form and concept, were created.
The series of images, which reveal themselves for what they are – monochromes/landscapes – only to a patient and “clean” eye, appears in eye-catching and bulky “baroque” frames, made of plaster of the same basic colour as the framed image: white, blue, red and gold.
The theme of fire, air, ice and desert appearing in the works through the symbology of colour, is implied in a fundamental and non-intellectual manner : they are the matrix of the flood of images to which we are subjected daily and the basis for the composition of the visible world. Various interpretations of the four elements take on different linguistic paths, distinguishing different cultures from the root to narrate our history as well as prehistory.
“Clean Your Eyes” is a project borne out of sensation, desire, the urgency to “clean” one’s vision of the world and to “reset” the mind: nature – basic, elementary and immediate – depicted in these photographs no longer exists (the photographs are already a strong filter), but the frame accomplishes a second purpose, that of removing it even more so from our sight, isolating it to finally be able to consider and see it once more. If the state of nature is utopian, culture – that is, the photograph, the frame, the symbol, the metaphor, the context – is the sole tool able to hold on to memory and nostalgia.
As a continuation of this line of thought, “Passages” will be shown, a video made in 2010 using long takes to film the endless labyrinths of the Italian Central Archive in Rome: information, memory, nostalgia, culture as well as flattening and oblivion are the contradictions that human beings experience the moment they seek an interpretation of the world just above the level of mere biological survival.
